Embodying our values: Developing a politics beyond trauma
Friday, May 29, 2020 6 to 8 pm $45
As folks deeply invested in liberation and the healing it takes to make that possible, we know how essential our work is. We have beautiful and sharp critiques of what isn't working in the world that often allow us to feel and know dignity when that isn't afforded to us by dominant systems. These experiences of trauma and oppression intimately shape our politics and what's possible in terms of our shared liberation.
In this highly experiential somatic workshop, we will examine and feel into that shaping. We will do this by working to identify how the embodied shaping of trauma shows up in each of our psychobiologies and in our collective psychobiology. We will also work to identify how our values are embodied and what politics are possible from a place of those values.
Brooke Stepp, MS, CN, LMHC Brooke is a mixed race, black and white, nonbinary, queer femme therapist, facilitator, and community organizer who has been working at the intersection of social justice and healing for most of their adult life. In all the work they do, Brooke strives to be a bridge between liberation and healing work, acknowledging that our personal well being is intimately tied to our collective well being. Brooke longs for a world beyond the public/private divide that racialized capitalism creates, imagining a future where our needs being met are tied to our inherent dignity rather than to what we produce. Brooke has trained with generative somatics since 2010 and finds much of their inspiration from this lineage. Brooke is the clinical director of Have Heart Wellness, a group practice whose mission is to offer heart centered, embodied politicized healing to communities most impacted by trauma and oppression. They are also a clinical supervisor at MEND Institute. They see much of their work as supporting the sustainability of healers so that we have the capacity to make change in our communities. When Brooke isn't doing this work, they are dancing, hanging out with their 3 perfect and amazing cats, reading communist theory, training muay thai, and going for walks through their neighborhood.
This is an on line (zoom) event.
