Liberating relationships: Polyamory
Friday, April 27 6 to 9 pm $35
This presentation will offer clinicians the opportunity to learn about, discuss, and more deeply understand polyamory, an approach to interpersonal relationships that questions the standard monogamous assumptions about sex, romance, and commitment. The presentation will
- provide an overview of the various types of polyamory (polyfidelity, relationship anarchy, ethical non-monogamy, don’t ask/don’t tell, etc.),
- explore common stereotypes and misperceptions,
- reflect on some of the upsides and drawbacks of non-monogamous approaches, and
- identify common concerns presented by non-monogamous clients and discuss sensitive, respectful ways to work with
these issues.
Participants will also be invited to explore their prejudices in this judgement-free environment, and will be encouraged to ask any and all questions at any time.
Kai Scantlin, PsyD is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Seattle who works extensively with individuals in the queer, poly, and kink communities, and specializes in life transitions and meaning-making; grief and loss; and sexual trauma. Kai primarily uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and emphasizes individual agency and empowerment
with all clients.
